Amal Mohammed Ali
On her way to register for the new school year in 2002, young Amal’s life changed forever. She remembers being very excited about the new school year and was looking forward to seeing her classmates and teachers…when she stepped on a landmine.
At the hospital in Sanaa, Yemen, she found out that she had lost her left leg and would no longer be able to walk. For the next 10 years, Amal was only able to move around with the help of crutches, and could no longer go to school. Amal describes stepping on the mine by saying, “the explosion took all of my dreams away.”
Through the Marshall Legacy Institute’s Survivors’ Assistance program in Yemen, Amal was finally fitted with a prosthetic leg and is now able to walk once again! She is incredibly grateful to the generous donors who are supporting MLI’s Survivors’ Assistance programs and looks forward to a life filled with much more hope.
