20th Anniversary of the
Children Against Mines Program (CHAMPS)
Survivor of the Year Award
Mileyni Ramirez Guevara
The Children Against Mines Program (CHAMPS) began in 2004 with a simple idea: if every Wyoming student donated a quarter, they could fund a mine detection dog. Today, CHAMPS has connected students from 16 U.S. states with youth in four countries, sponsoring over 50 mine detection dogs and delivering lifesaving mine risk education to hundreds of thousands. The 2024 Gala will feature a special presentation honoring the program’s impact over the past 20 years.
MDD Team of the Year Award
EDD Boomer
& Aram Rashad
EDD Boomer and his handler Aram Rashad, an Explosive Detection Dog Team from the Ministry of Peshmerga in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, have searched over 19,000 square meters of land, aiding in the rehabilitation of 11 civilian villages. Their bravery and teamwork have earned them the 2024 EDD Team of the Year Award.
Colombian landmine survivor Mileyni Ramirez Guevara lost a leg at 14 but has since thrived in advocacy, working with the Association of Survivors of Norte de Santander (ASOVIVIR) and promoting the ban on landmines. Her efforts have improved victim assistance and influenced public policy. She will receive the Survivor of the Year Award at the 2024 Clearing the Path Gala for her dedication to improving the lives of her fellow survivors.
Humanitarian Service Award

After a distinguished military career, Perry Baltimore became the founding director of MLI, dedicating his life to saving and improving lives worldwide. His efforts have secured a better future for countless people and helped lay the groundwork for MLI to continue making an impact for years to come.
